Buying French Wine

French wines typically are not marked by varietal, but rather by region (or even village) of origin.  Getting to know which region is best known for what grape varietals can take a long, long time because there are so many regions and sub-regions… but it’s worth the effort! 

We created the table below to serve as a starter-guide to shopping for French wine.  Just note that the list is highly simplified and in no way meant to be exhaustive.  Also, we only included the regions and, in some cases, sub-regions most well known for each corresponding grape varietal.
